Bruce D. Mitchell - President - Chief Executive Officer
With more than 25 years of professional experience in architectural design, construction management, and general contracting, Bruce D. Mitchell, AIA provides leadership, motivation and vision for Columbia Enterprises. He is proficient in negotiations, administration and oversight of large-scale, complex construction projects, including scheduling, cost control and contract management. He has managed a broad range of national and global architecture/construction projects, including government, commercial, hospitality, healthcare and educational contracts in excess of $150 million.
Mr. Mitchell managed in-house and external architectural and engineering teams as a senior project manager, design manager and consultant for developers and Fortune 500 companies. He incorporates innovative technology throughout the company to meet the specific needs of each client. Performance, quality and financial expenditures are closely monitored to ensure customer satisfaction and successful completion of each contract.
Mr. Mitchell was awarded the Firemark's Award from the Firemen’s Insurance Company of Washington, D.C. for outstanding community service in historical property design and renovation. He is a licensed architect and graduate of Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Architecture.
Clarence Crayton Jr. - Vice President Operations
Clarence Crayton, Jr. is a professional with more than 30 years of experience and in-depth knowledge of the construction process, from solicitation to project closeout. He has managed a broad range of national projects, including federal, municipal, commercial, and healthcare contracts in excess of $100 million. He attends progress meetings and manages the daily operations for all construction groups. Performance, quality, and financial expenditures are closely monitored to ensure customer satisfaction and successful completion of each contract. He was influential in the design, training, and implementation of innovative technology systems for planning and scheduling, price and cost analysis, and project management.
Mr. Clayton leads with a cooperative mindset and cultivates a cohesive team with staff, clients, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure integrity, customer satisfaction, quality services, and a safe work environment. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Architecture.
Patricia E. Mitchell – Vice President Finance & Administration
With over 20 years of experience in finance and administration, Pat Mitchell brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Columbia Enterprises, Inc. As the VP Director of Finance and Administration, she has been instrumental in driving the growth and success of Columbia Enterprises. Her area of responsibility comprises various key functions, including financial management, risk management, and overall administration. Her strategic mindset and exceptional leadership have played a pivotal role in securing and retaining major certifications, such as the prestigious 8(a) and HUB Zone certifications, which have greatly contributed to the company's business development.
A notable achievement has been her ability to enhance organizational efficiency and implementation. She has successfully increased the company's overall bonding capacity, positioning Columbia Enterprises as a leading small, minority-owned general contractor in the DMV area, with a bonding capacity of $5 million for single projects and $15 million aggregate.
In addition to her professional achievements, Ms. Mitchell is actively involved in the community and professional organizations. Currently serving on the Board of Directors at DeMatha Catholic High School, an active member of Leadership Greater Washington and volunteer at Alfred Street Baptist Church Foundation, she is dedicated to giving back and making a positive impact.
Some of her past professional affiliations include Professional Women in Construction (PWC), National Association of Black Women in Construction (NABWIC), Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA), The National Association of Female Executives, Former Chair Board of Directors of North Capitol Main Street, Inc.
Ms. Mitchell holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Management with a focus on Finance and Accounting. Her strong educational background, combined with her extensive experience and education make her a valuable asset to the Columbia Enterprises' team.
Virgil Hood, Jr. - Senior Project Manager, LEED AP BD+C
Virgil Hood is a professional with more than twenty years of construction management experience with commercial, federal, and defense government contracts. He maintains certification in the advanced level of green building knowledge, implementing Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) practices in building design and construction. Mr. Hood has additional training and certification in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) concepts, First Aid, and CPR.
Mr. Hood excels in value engineering and the essentials of superior project management. He directs and supervises the overall activities of employees in a variety of trade and custodial capacities through subordinate trade supervisors or contractor operations. He manages in-house and field personnel for each project and advises on matters regarding LEED criteria and compliance. Other responsibilities include solicitations and bid packages, purchasing, subcontract administration, safety, quality control, and record documents. He ensures successful delivery of quality projects on time and within budget.
Mr. Hood has excellent communication skills and manages each project as a team effort. He is a graduate of Hampton University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
